False Food Advertising

Y’know, I seem to post about food quite a bit on here. My blog buddy Tish recently pointed that out to me. I have no clue why, I just find food fascinating. Particularly odd, gross, bizarre types. And since it’s been like forever and a day since I posted about food (give or take a forever), here’s something I just found online that makes me proud.

Big thumbs up to Jeff Kay at The West Virginia Surf Report for putting together a photo expose comparing fast food advertisements to the real deal. This one isn’t really that gross, but it is pretty sad, and funny and true. Although I guess the real gross part is Jeff must’ve eaten all of these sandwiches. Bleargh.

Here’s just a few of my favorites, but read his Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality post for the full report!

Arby’s Beef ‘n’ Cheddar (can you tell which one’s the real one?)

Burger King Whopper (saddest Whopper ever!)

KFC Famous Bowl (no comment)

See the rest at Fast Food: Ads vs. Reality. If you can stomach it, that is.

What’s wrong with me that all that page did was make me hungry? Help!

Yes, they do not look at all alike, but that Arbys beef and cheddar is giving me the hop in the cat and drive up window feeling ….. and a shake would be nice …. curly fries with that? ohhh sure :-)

These pictures are so true. I don’t believe I’ve ever had a burger or sandwich from a fast food place that looked anything like the advert.

LOL, yet we keep buying…

Ew. Can’t we sue all advertisers for false advertising? I love the expose idea, even if I have to avert my eyes from that KFC bowl-o-bacteria.

So true…gave me an idea to take pics every time I eat out, so people know what to really expect. It’s unbelievable how they’re allowed to lie like that in advertisments: “all natural”, “100% pure”… all those things they say and the images they use are 100% BS. Good we have posts like this that reveal the truth

Justin - Hey bud! Uh, don’t take this the wrong way, but doesn’t everything make you hungry? Heh.

Speedcat - I hope you call your car the “cat,” otherwise I really don’t want to know what you do to that poor animal in your house when you have a “drive up window feeling.” But yeah, curly fries from Arby’s are top notch.

Jillian - It’s also like those awesome photos most recipe books have in them. How close does your meal ever look like the photo?!?

Deb - Sure. Go for it. We are the sue-happy country. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back. And yeah, that KFC bowl is quite frightening isn’t it? But in a train-wreck can’t-look-away sort of way.

Anca - Yep. Crazy how people can get away with things like that. And sadly, even knowing all these photos and the truth, you know you’ll still go out and order something and eat it. Us Americans (and you Canadiens too) are just weak when it comes to food, aren’t we?

I guess we’re always in a hurry and will buy whatever makes our stomachs full. We eat fast food too much and use the microwave too much. Fast life = fast food

That’s incredibly scary. And it’s also the reason why I haven’t eaten at Arby’s since I was thirteen (too grossed out to go back). Yuck!

What the hell is in that KFC Famous Bowl?

Oh how true. Chances are, the food in the advertisement is not real or treated with chemicals to make it look appealing. My son told me that when he took his photography class last year that the food that is real has been treated with chemicals and check out fake-foods.com.

I just checked out the rest of the photos. Ugh. Of course, it says that the items were photographed exactly how received, but I have to question that statement when it comes to the Wendy’s Southwestern Salad. I’ve ordered it before, and the ingredients come in separate containers that you have to put together yourself. So I guess you *could* make it look like the advertisement if you really wanted to waste some time. hehe.
